Back in March, Dawn Staley mentioned on her “Carolina Calls” radio show that South Carolina might look to the transfer portal to find a true center or post-oriented player. Just a month later, she made that move. The school announced the signing of former Mississippi State forward. According to multiple reports, she visited Columbia over the weekend and committed to the Gamecocks. She becomes South Carolina’s second portal addition this offseason, joining former Florida State star guard Ta’Niya Latson.
At 6-foot-6, she instantly becomes the tallest player on South Carolina’s roster. During her lone season at Mississippi State, she averaged 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in scoring while leading the Bulldogs in both rebounds and blocks (1.1 per game). Her efficiency was also unmatched—her 64.9% shooting from the field was the best mark in the SEC.
She faced South Carolina once this past season, finishing with four points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Her most dominant showing came in a win over Vanderbilt, where she exploded for 21 points and 23 boards. Over the course of the year, she posted 12 double-doubles, showcasing her consistency and ability to impact both ends of the floor.
Originally from Kenya, Okot played at Zetech University before coming to the United States. She also brings international experience to the Gamecocks, having represented the Kenyan national team from 2022 to 2024. With an impressive 8-foot-8 standing reach and a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Okot gives South Carolina a major interior presence heading into next season.
