SAD NEWS: Auburn confirm unwanted setback as freshman suffers terrible injury

Auburn cornerback has reportedly suffered a season-ending knee injury during spring camp, according to a Saturday report from Nathan King of Auburn Undercover. This marks the second straight year that a young Auburn corner has gone down with a serious knee injury in the spring — Tyler Scott missed the entire 2024 season after a similar setback last year.

Devin Williams is not expected to recover in time for the 2025 season. Fortunately, Auburn has solid depth at the cornerback position, including returning starters Kayin Lee and Jay Crawford, as well as Raion Strader and freshman Blake Woodby. Lee and Crawford each played over 500 snaps in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus.

A highly regarded member of Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class, Williams was ranked No. 367 overall and the No. 35 cornerback nationally by the 247Sports Composite. Despite the setback, he still has a promising future.

Head coach Hugh Freeze is heading into a crucial third year at the helm. The Tigers have gone 5-11 in SEC play under his leadership so far, but are hoping to make a leap forward in 2025.
