Bryce Harper, the Philadelphia Phillies’ first baseman, will be on the disabled list for some time due to a nagging wrist ailment, and his recent statements about the situation may raise concerns.
Harper was placed on the injured list Saturday due to right wrist soreness. He told reporters that he has been having wrist pain whenever he swings the bat, and that being hit on the elbow by a pitch recently hasn’t helped matters.
Harper was whacked on the elbow on May 27 in an event that sparked criticism. He has only played three games since then, going 1-for-11 with a home run.
The main fear for Harper and the Phillies is that he suffered a similar issue for much of last year. Whereas Harper played despite the pain in 2024, the new plan is to have him sit out for a while and hope things improve. If it does not, Harper’s season may once again become a matter of pain tolerance.
Harper’s statistics have declined slightly in 2025. In 57 games, he has hit. 258 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs.
