The 2025 season has been extremely difficult for the New York Giants. Not only did the Giants lose to their division rival in Week 9, but they also lost rookie Cam Skattebo for the season. Skattebo’s injury situation appears to have worsened since Sunday.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Skattebo suffered more than one devastating injury in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles.
In addition to his nasty ankle injuries, Skattebo suffered a fibula fracture and a deltoid ligament fracture.
Skattebo underwent immediate surgery on Sunday to close the wound, which was reportedly successful. The rehab process can now begin, and the Giants expect to have Skattebo back for the team’s offseason program this spring.
According to Rapoport, Skattebo’s injuries will require a four- to six-month recuperation period. That means, even in the long run, the rookie running back should be prepared for OTAs and minicamp in 2026.
Hopefully, Skattebo can continue where he left off during his sophomore season.

Giants offense now devastated by multiple season-ending injuries
Skattebo’s injury couldn’t have occurred at a worse moment for the Giants.
When Skattebo established himself as a starter, New York’s offense shifted. The rookie had 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns. He also made 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
The Giants can rely on Tyrone Tracy Jr. with Skattebo out, but their attack will undoubtedly be less dangerous.
New York was already without top receiver Malik Nabers, who suffered season-ending ACL and meniscus injuries earlier this month.

The Giants are now without their two biggest offensive weapons as they enter the second half of the 2025 season.
That puts New York in a difficult position, especially given that Jaxson Dart is in his rookie year. Perhaps the Giants will make a trade to acquire players in a desperate attempt to save their season. Alternatively, they might try to get through the rest of the season with what they already have.
In any case, if the Giants fail to win more games this season, significant changes may be on the way.
The Giants’ next encounter is against the 49ers in Week 9.
