Sad News: Green Bay Packers WR Appears To Have New ‘Personal’ Beef With Team

The Green Bay Packers ruffled some feathers on their roster when they selected Matthew Golden with the 23rd choice in the draft. When the Packers selected Javon Walker in the first round in 2022, it marked the first time they had done so in 23 seasons.

Wide receiver was highlighted as a need for Green Bay, particularly while Christian Watson recovers from a knee injury sustained in Week 18.

There was a perception in Green Bay that the team lacked a real No. 1 receiver, which head coach Matt LaFleur did not dispel when he stated that he believed the Packers had “a number” of them.

The Green Bay Packers had beef with a WR’s agent after the draft

Jayden Reed was the Packers’ top receiver in 2024, catching 55 catches for 857 yards and six touchdowns. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reed’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, met with the Packers’ brass after the selection to ensure his new client remained the No. 1 receiver in Green Bay.

“Packers GM Brian Guteksunst met last week with Jayden Reed’s agent Drew Rosenahus to clarify the wide receiver’s status in Green Bay after the team drafted Matthew Golden and Savion Williams,” Schefter told X. “The team said it will not affect Reed’s status as its top receiver, per source.”

Jayden Reed: People misinterpreted the report:

Following Wednesday’s OTA practice, Reed spoke to the media and addressed Adam Schefter’s report. He expressed frustration over the information being leaked and said the situation had been misunderstood.

“People really misunderstood what happened,” Reed said, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “I did hire a new agent, and we had already discussed before the draft that [Rosenhaus] would reach out to the front office to make sure everyone was aligned. As a new client, he told me that’s how he handles things—and he followed through on that.

“I don’t know how it got leaked, because it was supposed to stay private. But that’s how these things go. People hear about it and form their own opinions, which is fine.”

While there doesn’t seem to be major tension between Reed and the Packers, he clearly feels someone may have leaked the story to ESPN.

Reed, a second-round pick by Green Bay in 2023, is under contract through 2026. However, if his target share doesn’t align with the expectations he and Rosenhaus have, he could become a trade candidate around the 2025 or 2026 trade deadline as he nears the end of his rookie deal.
