The Los Angeles Dodgers are sitting firmly on baseball’s throne after claiming their second straight World Series championship. A year ago, they cruised past the New York Yankees for a convincing title. This season brought a tougher fight, as the Toronto Blue Jays pushed them all the way to a decisive Game 7. Even so, the Dodgers once again finished on top, and now they are looking at ways to extend their advantage over the rest of the league.
With the offseason underway, Los Angeles is expected to explore both free agency and potential trades to strengthen an already powerful roster. Eric Treuden of Just Baseball recently projected that the Dodgers could make a run at New York Mets star reliever Edwin Diaz. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Diaz is expected to command an eighty eight million dollar deal, a number well within reach for a big spending organization like Los Angeles.

Treuden noted that the Dodgers are in a position to irritate rival fan bases by being able to spend aggressively and chase nearly any top player on the market. Landing Diaz would immediately give them one of the premier relief arms available and address one of the very few areas where the team can still improve.
If Los Angeles has one clear priority, it is reinforcing its bullpen. Throughout the postseason, that group showed vulnerability, and opponents took notice. Adding Diaz would be an ideal solution.
He remains one of the most dominant closers in baseball, and the Dodgers have both the financial muscle and the ambition to pursue him. Poaching him from the Mets would not be easy, but given the Dodgers track record and resources, it is certainly within the realm of possibility.
