Stay or Go: Giants make ‘stunning’ trade decision for star pass-rusher at the deadline

The New York Giants’ defensive line remains the backbone of their roster, anchored by a group of standout pass-rushers — including one player who has reportedly drawn trade interest as the November 4 deadline approaches.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Giants have turned down trade inquiries involving Kayvon Thibodeaux but did place a steep asking price on the young edge rusher.

“The Giants do not plan to move pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. They previously told inquiring teams that the price would be a first-round pick,” Russini reported.

Would a first-round pick change their minds?

While New York has no current plans to deal Thibodeaux, they have made it clear that a first-round selection could get their attention. That said, it’s unlikely any team would surrender such a high asset for Thibodeaux — a player with undeniable talent but inconsistent production and only one year remaining on his rookie contract.

The Giants exercised Thibodeaux’s fifth-year option, keeping him under team control through 2026 with a projected cap hit of $14.75 million.

This season, Thibodeaux has totaled nine quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, and five tackles for loss, showing noticeable improvement in run defense.

Still, the Giants believe the 24-year-old has yet to reach his full potential — and they want him to realize that ceiling in New York, not somewhere else.
