The Philadelphia Phillies have been active this offseason as they work to rebound from their playoff exit at the hands of the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The team recently received a boost with the news that Kyle Schwarber would be returning on a massive contract, and on Wednesday, they followed that up with another significant move aimed at strengthening their pitching staff.

“Free agent pitcher Brad Keller is in agreement with the Phillies on a two-year deal, sources tell ESPN,” Jesse Rogers reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, noting that FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray was first to indicate a deal was close. The agreement is pending a physical.
Throughout his major league career, Keller has suited up for multiple organizations, including the Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and most recently, the Chicago Cubs.

Keller is coming off the strongest season of his career, which he spent in Chicago. That breakout performance played a major role in increasing his value on the free-agent market this offseason.
Philadelphia could clearly use reinforcements in the bullpen, a unit that struggled to make an impact during its postseason matchup with the Dodgers. Improving relief pitching remains an important area of focus as the team looks to address shortcomings exposed in October.

Even so, the Phillies continue to sit on the edge of legitimate World Series contention. After being knocked out in the NLDS in each of the past two postseasons, the organization is hoping additions such as Brad Keller can help push them over the hump.
Looking ahead, Philadelphia will officially begin its preparations for the new season when spring training opens in February.
