With the preseason at its midway point, the Colorado Avalanche have been busy adjusting their roster, most recently by placing five players on waivers, reducing the group to 35.
After last 4-1 victory over Dallas, the Avalanche reassigned four additional players who didn’t need to clear waivers to the Colorado Eagles’ camp. Prospects Sean Behrens and Ivan Ivan head down after strong performances in camp and preseason action. Joining them are AHL-contracted forwards Tristen Nielsen and Eagles captain Jayson Megna. Nielsen especially stood out, and he could be elevated to an NHL contract if Colorado chooses to bring him into the mix.

Four forwards were waived and later cleared, allowing them to join the Colorado Eagles’ training camp as expected. The group—Alex Barre-Boulet, Tye Felhaber, Jason Polin, and TJ Tynan—are all AHL veterans, so the moves weren’t unexpected, though Tynan did receive an extended look with the Avalanche in last year’s camp.
To wrap up the weekend, the Avalanche placed defenseman Ronnie Attard on waivers following last practice. They also reassigned four waiver-exempt players to the Colorado Eagles: forwards Chase Bradley and Cooper Gay, defenseman Alex Gagné, and AHL-contracted goaltender Kyle Keyser.

At this stage, it’s worth highlighting the players still in camp, though some remain only because of injuries elsewhere on the roster. Among the healthy group still competing for an opening-night spot—or at least positioning themselves as early call-up options—are forwards Zakhar Bardakov, Gavin Brindley, Danil Gushchin, and Matt Stienburg, along with defensemen Jack Ahcan and Wyatt Aamodt. Also still around is 19-year-old QMJHL invite goalie Mathis Langevin. While Colorado’s thin goaltending depth and current injuries likely explain his extended stay, the youngster has nonetheless made a strong impression.
