Indiana Land Commitment For Another Top Experienced Star

Kyler Kropp, an in-state wide receiver, discusses why he accepted the Indiana Hoosiers’ preferred walk-on offer.

Last week, in-state prospect Kyler Kropp signed a preferred walk-on offer from Indiana. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound wide receiver from New Palestine High School in Indiana spoke with Peegs.com about his desire to play for the Hoosiers.

Kropp said he had wanted to play football at Indiana for as long as he can remember.

“I have always been a fan of IU,” he stated, explaining why Indiana is the right destination for him. “Growing up, I would go to my grandparents’ house every Saturday to watch football, which I believe affected my desire to play for IU at a young age. I want my papaw to see me on TV wearing cream and crimson. It’s also only around an hour’s trip from home, which my family enjoys.”

Kropp is excited to play under Curt Cignetti, who has been a successful head coach.

“I am very excited that my head coach is going to be Curt Cignetti,” he stated. “He has a wealth of experience, impressive winning records, and was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2023. I’m still learning all the nuances of his strategy, but I know I’m lucky to be able to contribute to the process of constructing a winning team at Indiana. I’ll do whatever it takes to win.

The great prospect stated that regardless of where he plays for the Hoosiers, he simply wants to help them start winning.

“I would say my versatility,” Kropp remarked when asked what the staff loves about him as a player. “I don’t know where I will l play, but I do know wherever the coaches put me, whether it’s slot or outside receiver, I will do my best to excel.”

Kyler Kropp, New Palestine - Prep Redzone

Kropp led New Palestine last season in receiving yards (740), receptions (40), and receiving touchdowns (9). He was also the team’s second-leading rusher, with 562 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was satisfied with his performance as a senior.

“My senior season didn’t really start off how I wanted it to after we lost our first two games,” Kropp stated. “We had a pretty young team, and I believe after the first two games, their nerves subsided. After the second setback, we rallied everyone and went on to win 11 straight games, earning the Regional Championship for the first time in my high school career.

I believe my most significant improvement as a player was being more dynamic. Last year, I had about equal stats in both receiving and rushing, and I really evolved into the role that Coach (Kyle) Ralph particularly planned for me.

Kropp values the opportunity to play football at Indiana University because he will be the first member of his family to do so.

“It’s very big for me and my family since I will be the first on to play sports in college, especially when it is at a college that more than half my family roots for,” Kropp stated.
