Auburn football wrapped up its spring schedule on Saturday with the annual A-Day scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium, giving fans their first real look at how the rebuilt roster is shaping up under new leadership. The spotlight naturally fell on the quarterback room, where competition is already forming after a wave of offseason changes and transfers designed to reset the program’s direction. Expectations were high going into the scrimmage, especially for the presumed starter, but the day produced mixed results and highlighted just how unsettled the position still is heading into summer workouts.
The most closely watched performer struggled to find consistency throughout the controlled setting. Former USF quarterback QB1 Byrum Brown who followed his previous head coach to Auburn, completed just 7 of 14 passes for 85 yards and threw two interceptions. While there were flashes of command, the overall rhythm never fully developed, and decision making under pressure became an issue at times. In contrast, another transfer quarterback from Oregon State delivered a noticeably stronger performance, completing 15 of 20 passes for 179 yards, adding a touchdown pass while also throwing one interception, and generally operating the offense with more efficiency and timing.

Head coach Alex Golesh addressed the performance afterward, emphasizing that the evaluation was more about processing than talent. “I didn’t think Byrum saw it great today,” Golesh said to reporters after the workout at Jordan-Hare Stadium. “Where his game has come in the last 15 practices, he was efficient in what he had to do, but he didn’t see it great today… Mentally, he was fine. Composure, he was fine. Didn’t see it well.”
The quarterback in question arrived at Auburn after a productive stint at USF, where he threw for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns in his most recent season. His overall college production includes 7,690 passing yards, 2,265 rushing yards, and 92 total touchdowns during his time with the Bulls.

Auburn, meanwhile, enters a new era after parting ways with Hugh Freeze midseason following a 5–7 campaign and hiring Golesh to lead the program forward. The Tigers will open the 2026 season at home against Baylor on September 5, with SEC play beginning September 19 against Florida in Auburn.
