The Philadelphia Phillies have dealt another pitcher to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations after he made only two bullpen appearances this season.
The 32-year-old surrendered just one earned run over 4.1 innings, posting a 2.08 ERA. He could see more opportunities with Chicago, a team off to an unexpectedly strong start in the American League Central.
A nine-year MLB veteran, Richards’ outings with Philadelphia on April 30 and May 2 marked his first major league action since July 2025 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He had been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier after giving up six hits and three runs in eight spring training innings, though he struck out 11. Before being called up on April 30, he went 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in nine appearances for the club’s top affiliate.
Trevor Richards originally signed a minor league deal with Philadelphia in December and impressed during spring training, allowing three earned runs in eight innings (3.38 ERA) with four walks and 11 strikeouts.

In a related roster move, Chicago shifted right-hander Drew Thorpe to the 60-day injured list as he continues recovering from Tommy John surgery. The move is procedural and does not change his recovery timeline.
Because the White Sox bullpen is currently full, the team will need to make a corresponding 26-man roster move before Richards can take the mound.
Chicago entered Tuesday’s matchup in Anaheim with a 17-18 record, sitting just half a game out of first place in the AL Central, with Erick Fedde scheduled to start.
Across his career, Richards owns a 24-28 record with a 4.52 ERA in 297 games (61 starts), pitching for multiple teams including the Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Diamondbacks, and Phillies.
Originally a starting pitcher, Richards has transitioned almost entirely into a relief role since 2021, making 222 of his 233 appearances out of the bullpen in that span.
