The Philadelphia Phillies’ offense flexed its full power on Tuesday night, cruising to a 9–1 win over the Athletics. Alongside the explosive bats, left-hander Cristopher Sánchez delivered a dominant outing, tossing eight scoreless innings while racking up 10 strikeouts.
At the plate, Bryce Harper led the charge with two home runs—one in the third inning to right-center (393 feet) and another in the eighth to straightaway center (408 feet). Bryson Stott also turned in an impressive performance, finishing two-for-four with a two-run homer in the seventh inning.
Stott has been getting more consistent opportunities recently as the Phillies face a stretch of right-handed pitching. Typically deployed as a platoon option this season, he’s now drawing support to become an everyday presence in the lineup—something Harper strongly endorsed.
Bryce Harper makes it clear the Philadelphia Phillies should play Bryson Stott every day
“I mean, he’s an everyday player, you know,” Harper told reporters after the game. “And when you have a guy that needs to play every day, and, you know, lefty, righty, don’t matter. I mean, he’s gonna keep having good at-bats. And he’s an everyday guy. He always has been. You know, when you take an everyday guy to the lineup, it’s tough for them to get it going each day. So I think you guys have seen that over the past couple of days.”

Even with the recent surge—three home runs over his last five games—Stott’s overall numbers remain underwhelming. Through 30 games, he’s batting .210 with a .621 OPS and three homers.
Meanwhile, Edmundo Sosa has outperformed him statistically this season, posting a .277 average and a .710 OPS, which has occasionally cut into Stott’s playing time. However, with Stott heating up and interim manager Don Mattingly now leading the team, he could be in line for a larger, more consistent role moving forward.
