Recruiting Win: Kentucky Steals 4-Star Playmaker From SEC Rivals in Major Recruiting Win

Kentucky’s new era under first-year head coach Will Stein is already gaining momentum on the recruiting trail, as the Wildcats have secured a major building block for the future. Stein now has a 4-star wide receiver locked in for the 2027 season, an important early win as he works to revive Kentucky’s football fortunes in Lexington.

Former Cats in the NFL

On Saturday afternoon, highly regarded Virginia prospect Iveon Lewis announced his commitment to Kentucky, giving Stein a notable boost before his first season on the sideline even officially begins. Lewis, who plays at Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia, said the Wildcats “checked all the boxes” during his recruitment, ultimately convincing him to leave his home state and head to the SEC for the 2027 season.

Pulling Lewis out of Virginia was no small accomplishment, and Kentucky also had to fend off stiff competition from across the country. SEC programs such as Georgia, Tennessee, and Oklahoma all extended scholarship offers, but it was Stein — fresh off three seasons as one of college football’s most respected offensive minds — who won the battle for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound wideout.

Lewis’ recruitment wasn’t limited to the SEC. National champion Indiana and perennial Big Ten power Ohio State were also firmly in the mix, underscoring just how significant this commitment is for Kentucky. Beating out that level of competition sends a clear message about the direction Stein is taking the program as he prioritizes dynamic offensive playmakers.

Kentucky first offered Lewis back in February, and just three months later that relationship turned into a commitment. The Wildcats also managed to pull him away from Virginia Tech, which was pushing hard to keep the talented receiver in his home state.

According to recruiting rankings, Lewis is currently viewed as a top-350 prospect nationally in the Class of 2027. He is ranked among the top 50 wide receivers in the class and is considered one of the best overall players to come out of Virginia this cycle, further highlighting the upside he brings to Kentucky’s future offense.

With Lewis now in the fold, Kentucky has 14 commitments in what is shaping up to be a strong 2027 recruiting class. As of now, Stein’s class sits inside the national top 10, a clear sign that momentum is building quickly under the new coaching staff.

While Wildcats fans will have to wait until 2027 to see Lewis take the field in Lexington, the bigger picture is already coming into focus. A new regime officially begins in 2026, and Kentucky will be aiming to make noise in the SEC sooner rather than later. Early recruiting wins like this suggest Stein’s rebuild is gaining traction faster than many expected.
