The Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) officially announced the signing of Bruce Zimmermann for the remainder of the 2026 season. The 31-year-old left-hander has agreed to a contract that includes a $300,000 salary, a $70,000 signing bonus, and the opportunity to earn an additional $70,000 through performance incentives.
Zimmermann joins the Eagles after the club released Wilkel Hernandez on Sunday, immediately stepping into a vacancy in Hanwha’s starting rotation as the team continues its push for a postseason berth.
Although Zimmermann made only one major league relief appearance for the Cardinals in 2026, he was a dependable contributor for Triple-A Memphis. Over 15 starts, he compiled a 5-3 record with a 3.78 ERA across 78 2/3 innings, providing quality performances while remaining prepared for another opportunity in St. Louis.
The veteran owns 40 career major league appearances, including 28 starts, spread across stints with the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cardinals. During that time, he posted an 8-11 record with a 5.63 ERA over 169 1/3 innings.
The Eagles praised Zimmermann’s ability to command a deep repertoire that features a four-seam fastball, slider, forkball, sinker, cutter, and curveball, believing his versatility can strengthen their pitching staff.
Hanwha, the runner-up in the 2025 Korean Series, currently sits at 40-43-3, good for sixth place in the KBO standings. The Eagles trail the fifth-place Doosan Bears by four games and have dropped three consecutive contests, making Zimmermann an important addition as they attempt to revive their playoff hopes.
