Nottingham Forest could face another important decision over Cuiabano, with three Saudi Arabian clubs reportedly keeping a close eye on the left-back ahead of a possible January approach.
The 22-year-old is currently spending the season on loan at Vasco da Gama, where his own preference for the future appears to be straightforward. Cuiabano would like to remain in Rio de Janeiro into 2027, either by extending his loan or making the move permanent.
That could put Forest in a position where they have to weigh the player’s wishes against growing interest from Saudi Arabia when the January transfer window opens.
Three Saudi clubs waiting on Forest
According to Globo Esporte, three unnamed Saudi clubs have already made enquiries regarding Cuiabano and are following developments surrounding his situation ahead of the winter transfer window.
An intermediary who is regularly involved in negotiations between Brazilian and Saudi clubs was present to watch the defender during Vasco’s last two matches.
The clubs involved are now looking to establish Nottingham Forest’s plans for Cuiabano before deciding whether to step up their interest. Any moves could come between December and January.
That would provide Forest with another possible avenue for a player who has yet to make a competitive appearance for the club.
Earlier this year, Torino, Rennes and Strasbourg had all shown an interest in Cuiabano and made enquiries. However, none of those approaches developed into a deal before the European transfer windows closed.
The latest Saudi interest, meanwhile, is emerging well in advance of the January window.
Cuiabano wants to stay in Rio
Cuiabano’s own preference is understood to be different. Globo Esporte reports that his priority is to remain with Vasco da Gama in 2027, whether through another loan spell or a permanent transfer.
The defender is said to have settled comfortably in Rio de Janeiro, while his family are also keen to remain in the city. Vasco president Pedrinho has personally told Cuiabano that retaining him is among the club’s priorities.
There is already a route available for Vasco to make that happen. The Brazilian club have a €10m (£8.7m) purchase option included in the current loan agreement, although they have yet to make a final decision on whether to activate it.
Cuiabano’s injury record is one factor Vasco have had to consider. He spent roughly a month on the sidelines with medical issues during the second half of the season.
Lucas Piton took his opportunity during that period and produced a strong run of performances. Once Cuiabano returned to full fitness, however, he regained his place in the starting XI and has continued to feature regularly.
Vasco remain convinced by his quality

Cuiabano’s time out of the team has not altered Vasco’s view of his ability. He made an immediate impression after joining the club and has now made 25 appearances this season, contributing one goal and five assists.
Vasco’s football department continue to hold him in high regard. They believe he is already capable of operating at a high level in Série A, while also recognising that he still has significant room to improve.
His physical presence and technical qualities are particularly appreciated, while Vasco are also pleased with the options currently available to them at left-back.
As a result, Nottingham Forest could enter the January window with several different possibilities to weigh up regarding Cuiabano.
