The Auburn Tigers are wasting no time building for the future, and they just made a major statement on the recruiting trail by securing their first commitment of the 2028 class.
Auburn landed a commitment from top talented quarterback prospect giving head coach Alex Golesh another promising young signal-caller to build around as the Tigers continue shaping the future of the program. Although Sollie is still preparing to enter his junior season of high school football, his decision to lock in with Auburn this early could prove to be a significant development for the Tigers down the road.
Sollie, who is entering his junior year at Gadsden City High School in Gadsden, Alabama, chose Auburn despite holding offers from several prominent programs. His recruitment included interest and offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Florida, Florida State and Tennessee, among others, making his decision to commit to the Tigers particularly noteworthy.
The 6-foot-3, 187-pound quarterback originally began his high school career at Westbrook Christian School before making the move to Gadsden City. His combination of size, early recruiting attention and experience against high-level competition has already put him on the radar of major programs across the country.
And perhaps the biggest reason Auburn was able to make such an early impression is that Sollie appears to have been an Auburn fan for much of his life.
In announcing his commitment on Instagram, Sollie shared a video chronicling his football journey, including images of himself as a young child wearing Auburn gear. The video ultimately culminated in his decision to pledge to the Tigers, offering a glimpse into just how meaningful the commitment appears to be for the young quarterback.
While it is obviously far too early to make definitive judgments about a player in the 2028 recruiting class, Sollie’s early ranking already shows why major programs have been paying attention. He is currently regarded as the No. 611 overall prospect in the 2028 class, the No. 44 quarterback and the No. 21 player in the state of Alabama.
Those rankings are likely to change considerably over the next couple of years as recruiting services get more opportunities to evaluate the rising quarterback. Sollie’s development during his junior and senior seasons could have a major impact on where he ultimately finishes in the national rankings.
For Auburn, however, the bigger takeaway is the momentum this commitment creates.
Sollie becomes Alex Golesh’s second high school quarterback commitment since taking over at Auburn, following the commitment of 2027 quarterback Gary Chatman Jr. in May. With two young quarterbacks now committed in consecutive recruiting classes, the Tigers are clearly trying to establish long-term stability at one of the most important positions on the roster.
Landing Sollie this early also gives Auburn plenty of time to develop the relationship and continue recruiting around him. If his stock rises significantly over the next two seasons, the Tigers could eventually find themselves looking back on this commitment as one of the earliest signs that they identified a quarterback before the rest of the country caught up.
For now, though, Auburn fans have plenty of reason to be excited.
