AUBURN, Ala. (WKRG) — Former Saraland Spartans standout DeShawn Spencer is quickly making an impact during his first semester with Auburn football.
Spencer emerged as one of the top performers in Auburn’s 2026 A-Day Game on Saturday, finishing with nine receptions for 93 yards. His impressive outing earned him Offensive MVP honors and hinted at a potential contributing role for the Tigers heading into the 2026 season.

The freshman signed with Auburn as a three-star recruit in the 2026 class after a standout high school career at Saraland. He picked up 25 scholarship offers along the way, drawing interest from programs such as Duke, Maryland, Houston, and South Florida, all of which he visited during his recruitment.
Like many first-year players, Spencer faced an adjustment period as he transitioned from high school to the college game, dealing with a faster pace and more complex system. After the A-Day Game, he reflected on those early challenges, admitting the jump initially felt overwhelming before he found his footing.

Spencer explained that dedicating extra time to practice and preparation made a significant difference. By putting in additional hours and committing to the process, things gradually began to slow down and make more sense, allowing him to play with greater confidence.
The A-Day Game ended with Auburn’s offense defeating the defense by a 66–43 score.
