Breaking: 4 Braves Players Are Leaving Atlanta in Stunning Trade Deadline Shakeup

Overall, the Atlanta Braves have received plenty of praise for their approach to the 2026 MLB Draft. The organization recognized that its draft slot was an ideal setup for an underslot-then-overslot strategy, allowing them to land a highly regarded college hitter in AJ Gracia well below slot value before using those savings to build a strong group of high-upside prep pitchers, headlined by Jensen Hirschkorn. From a strategic and execution standpoint, Atlanta handled the draft extremely well.

But the Braves’ draft success did more than simply strengthen their farm system. With the trade deadline approaching quickly, the depth Atlanta added could make it easier — and perhaps more logical — for the team to include certain prospects in potential deals without feeling like they are weakening their organizational foundation.

Before getting into specific names, one important clarification: no, the Braves cannot trade players they selected in this year’s draft at the deadline. Drafted players are not eligible to be traded until after the World Series ends in the season they were selected. The rule, commonly known as the Trea Turner Rule, also prevents teams from using “player to be named later” workarounds involving recently drafted players. In short, those types of trades are off the table.

Looking at Atlanta’s additions in this draft, two areas stand out: outfield depth and starting pitching. With that in mind, several Braves prospects may now be slightly more available in trade discussions following the completion of the team’s draft strategy.

Owen Carey

The group of trades where Atlanta would realistically consider including Eric Hartman has likely not changed simply because the Braves added more outfield talent. However, selecting AJ Gracia and Carter Beck could make prospects like Owen Carey somewhat more expendable.

Moving Carey would still represent a meaningful loss. He has shown signs of a breakout at High-A recently and remains a legitimate prospect, but the Braves now have more depth in the outfield pipeline. As a result, parting with him would not create the same level of concern it might have before the draft.

Briggs McKenzie

The starting pitching situation is a bit more complicated. Given Atlanta’s current rotation needs, the organization will likely be hesitant to move too many young arms who are nearing major league readiness.

However, after adding several high-upside prep pitchers through overslot deals, trading someone like Briggs McKenzie — who was himself an overslot selection last year — becomes easier to consider. McKenzie’s current stint on the injured list complicates matters, but the added depth behind him makes the possibility of a trade more realistic than before.

Diego Tornes

Similar to Carey, Diego Tornes is a talented outfielder in the lower levels of the system and was one of Atlanta’s top international signings. Before the draft, the Braves may have viewed him as a player they needed to protect carefully.

A difficult first half of the season, followed by an injury, may have lowered his trade value somewhat. Still, with more outfield depth now in place, Atlanta may no longer need to treat Tornes as untouchable as they might have earlier in the year.

Cam Caminiti

Cam Caminiti is one of the more interesting cases. He sits in a crowded pitching group where prospects like JR Ritchie and Owen Murphy are ahead of him in the short-term development timeline, while players such as Garrett Baumann, Herick Hernandez, and Lucas Braun are further along in their progression.

With inconsistent results as a starter during the 2026 season, Caminiti had already become an intriguing trade candidate. The additions of Jensen Hirschkorn, Kaiden McCarthy, and Cole Dennis only make the idea of moving him easier to accept.

That said, Atlanta should not simply give Caminiti away. His upside remains significant, and while the Braves have more pitching depth than before, he still carries considerable value as a prospect.
