The Atlanta Braves continued their impressive run against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, securing a dramatic 5-4 victory at Citizens Bank Park to take a 2-1 advantage in the series.
The game appeared to be slipping away from Atlanta until Ronald Acuña Jr. delivered another unforgettable moment. The superstar outfielder launched a game-tying home run in the eighth inning, erasing a late Phillies lead and shifting the momentum back toward the Braves.
Acuña finished the afternoon with a huge offensive performance, collecting two hits and driving in four runs as Atlanta rallied for the win.
Following the game, Braves manager Walt Weiss made it clear that he believes Acuña is returning to the dominant form that made him one of baseball’s most feared players.
“He’s himself again,” Weiss said after the victory.
The statement reflected the growing belief inside the Braves clubhouse that Acuña is once again playing with the confidence and explosiveness that defined his best seasons.
The eighth-inning blast was especially impressive, as Acuña crushed a pitch traveling 100.5 mph — one of the fastest pitches a Braves hitter has ever homered against during the Statcast era. Only Eddie Rosario’s 101.2 mph home run in 2021 and Matt Olson’s 101.0 mph homer in 2022 came against faster pitches.
Weiss later praised Acuña’s ability to shine in the biggest moments, saying, “The great ones have a flair for the dramatic.”
The home run also added another chapter to Acuña’s growing rivalry with Philadelphia fans. His celebrations throughout the series have drawn plenty of attention, with many Phillies supporters expressing frustration over his displays after big hits.
Despite the controversy, Acuña’s production speaks for itself. Against Philadelphia, he finished with a double, a home run, and four RBIs. Through 90 games this season, he has posted 16 home runs and 20 stolen bases, showing signs of returning to his elite all-around form.
The Braves’ victory also continued their dominance over the Phillies this season. Philadelphia has now lost seven of its nine matchups against Atlanta in 2026.
With the win, Atlanta improved to 85-58 and maintained its position atop the National League East standings. The Braves will close out the series in Philadelphia before returning home to Truist Park for a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Acuña’s resurgence could not have come at a better time, and if Sunday’s performance is any indication, the Braves may be getting their superstar back at exactly the right moment.
