The Miami Heat look like one of the few franchises prepared to make significant roster upgrades this offseason.
For the fourth straight season, Miami finished in the play-in tournament, and despite flashes of postseason success — including its stunning run to the 2023 NBA Finals as an eighth seed — the organization’s standards remain much higher.
Simply reaching the play-in is no longer enough for a franchise built around winning.
The Heat have already emerged as one of the teams heavily linked to Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, but new reports suggest Miami could also explore a move for Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant.
Miami Heat Could Have Opportunity to Land Ja Morant

According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the relationship between the Grizzlies and Morant appears beyond repair, with a trade potentially looming this summer.
Morant, still just 26 years old, could become an intriguing option for Miami, especially if the Heat succeed in bringing Antetokounmpo to South Beach and need another dynamic star in the backcourt.
“The relationship between the Grizzlies and Ja Morant hasn’t been repaired, and a trade will occur within the next month,” Sidery posted on X. “Memphis will be selling off Morant this summer at his lowest possible value, similarly to what the Hawks also did mid-season with Trae Young.”
If Morant’s trade value has indeed dropped, that could benefit Miami. The Heat would likely have limited assets remaining after a potential blockbuster deal for Antetokounmpo, making a discounted opportunity for Morant far more realistic.
On paper, the pairing of Antetokounmpo and Morant raises questions about fit, spacing, and roster balance. Still, Miami has consistently shown an ability to maximize star talent regardless of circumstances.
Reports have indicated Antetokounmpo is evaluating whether the Heat could surround him with a championship-caliber supporting cast. Pursuing Morant could be Miami’s attempt to address those concerns while building another superstar duo.

Morant’s Situation in Memphis Could Concern Potential Suitors
There are clear reasons why Morant — once viewed as one of the NBA’s brightest young superstars and future MVP candidates — is now being discussed in trade rumors.
Over the last few seasons, both his production and availability have noticeably declined. Some around the league believe the explosive guard has slipped from perennial MVP potential to merely an above-average point guard.
Following Memphis’ season-ending exit, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported several examples of tension between Morant and the organization in recent months.
Morant reportedly became frustrated with Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo and never fully moved past an internal team issue that eventually led to a suspension.
A move to Miami would likely represent a major adjustment for Morant. The Heat organization has long been known for demanding professionalism, accountability, and a team-first mentality from its players.
That does not necessarily mean Morant would fail to adapt to Heat culture. However, considering his recent history — including multiple off-court concerns — it is reasonable for teams to question whether he would be the ideal fit organizationally.
