BREAKING: Michael Dell issues six-word response to Everton takeover rumours

Michael Dell has responded to speculation linking him with a potential takeover of Everton Football Club.

Earlier this month, it emerged that The Friedkin Group (TFG) were open to selling their stake in the Merseyside club, less than two years after becoming majority owners.

Dan Friedkin and his associates faced significant criticism from Everton supporters during the summer over their failure to invest adequately in the squad, despite sanctioning several major player sales.

Consequently, David Moyes was left working with a relatively thin squad, while Friedkin has yet to attend an Everton match in person. The American businessman has also faced accusations that his primary focus is on developing TFG’s other football club, Roma.

Several potential buyers have been linked with Everton in recent weeks, with Alan Nixon reporting on Sunday that the Dell family were considering a possible deal to purchase the Blues from TFG.

What Michael Dell said about Everton rumours

On Wednesday evening, Dell dismissed reports suggesting that he was interested in buying Everton.

Goodison News has already highlighted the practical challenges surrounding a potential deal involving the billionaire and the Merseyside club.

However, the world’s fourth-richest man has now personally addressed the speculation, which was initially reported by Nixon on Sunday, making it clear that he has no plans to purchase the Premier League side.

Responding on X alongside a laughing emoji, Dell wrote: “Who comes up with these stories?”

So who will be buying Everton?

Earlier on Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported that TFG were in the process of approaching potential investors to identify serious buyers for the club.

The Friedkins are understood to be keen to avoid putting Everton supporters through another lengthy and uncertain takeover process, particularly after the drawn-out events surrounding the final stages of Farhad Moshiri’s ownership.

At present, there are no concrete reports identifying a leading candidate to purchase Everton. Nevertheless, one name that could continue to feature prominently in the conversation is Amanda Staveley.

Following the sale of her and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s stakes in Newcastle United in 2024, Staveley has made it clear that they are interested in returning to ownership within English football.

She submitted a bid to acquire Tottenham Hotspur just under two years ago and was recently linked with a potential purchase of the late David Gold’s shares in West Ham United.

With Everton potentially entering a new chapter under different ownership, Staveley is certainly a name worth monitoring as the search for prospective buyers continues.
