The Newcastle United star is set to travel to Prague as England prepare for their first opportunity to respond to Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against world champions Spain.
Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall is in contention to feature for England in their UEFA Nations League clash with Czechia tomorrow night.
The Toon defender has returned to training after missing several sessions last week, with Thomas Tuchel initially concerned that putting Hall up against Lamine Yamal could aggravate what had begun as a “minor issue”. The muscle problem ultimately saw the Newcastle defender remain on the bench during England’s 3-2 defeat to Spain on Saturday evening.
An England statement from Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground said today: “Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly are following their own individual programmes at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground this morning. All other 22 players are involved in group training ahead of the squad departing for Prague this afternoon.”
With O’Reilly enduring a difficult outing against Spain before also going down with a knock, Hall’s chances of starting against Santi Denia’s Czech side have received a significant boost. Czechia, who reached the Euro 96 final, are currently ranked 49th in the world.
Hall did not speak to reporters as he left Wembley last night, although he did complete some additional training following the match in the capital. With O’Reilly struggling against the world champions, Hall could become the natural choice at left-back if he is declared fully fit for the Czech Republic encounter.
Tuchel explained after England’s 3-2 defeat to Spain: “He missed some training sessions with a bit of an injury scare, Lewis Hall.
“That is why I was a bit hesitant to put him out there today.
“He is an option, he trained well at the end of the week but he was out of training at the start, we didn’t want to take any risk because there was high speed running to do and defending against Lamine Yamal.”
The England boss also added: “I did not want to risk it. He is always in our discussions in the left-back position; he plays left-back at his club. Nico plays in centre midfield.
“Lewis’ situation is he will fight for his place and get his first matches, there are still a few matches to go.”
