Before his release, the right-hander posted a 2-2 record with a 2.74 ERA across 17 minor league appearances in 2026. His performance showed his ability to provide reliable innings, but the Cardinals ultimately decided to make a change as they continue evaluating their pitching depth during the final stretch of the season.
Santos has spent parts of seven professional seasons in the minor leagues, previously being part of the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies organizations before joining St. Louis.

Cardinals Running Out of Time in Playoff Race
The Cardinals enter Tuesday’s matchup against Philadelphia sitting third in the National League Central with a 59-60 record through 119 games.
