BREAKING: North Carolina on Verge of Landing Elite 4-Star Center in Massive Recruiting Win

Michael Malone and North Carolina are continuing to explore every possible avenue to strengthen their frontcourt depth ahead of the 2026-27 season.

A new name has emerged as a potential option for the Tar Heels. According to Tobias Bass of The Athletic, North Carolina has engaged in discussions with Robert Morris transfer Josh Hill as it evaluates additional roster additions.

Bass reported that UNC recently conducted a Zoom meeting with the veteran big man, signaling at least some level of interest in bringing him to Chapel Hill.

Hill, a 6-foot-11 forward, began his collegiate career at Arkansas State before transferring to Robert Morris prior to his sophomore campaign. The move allowed him to carve out a larger role with the Colonials and gain valuable experience at the Division I level.

During the 2025-26 season, Hill appeared in 22 games, primarily coming off the bench. He averaged 7.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 45.5% from the field. Although he spent much of the season in a reserve role, he earned six starts and contributed to a Robert Morris team that finished 22-11 overall, good for second place in the Horizon League standings.

After making several headline-grabbing additions earlier in the offseason, North Carolina’s focus has shifted toward identifying players who can provide immediate depth and reliable minutes. Much of that attention has centered on the frontcourt, where the Tar Heels are still looking to add reinforcements before finalizing their roster. Given his size, experience, and developmental upside, Hill represents an intriguing possibility.

The roster overhaul in Chapel Hill has been significant. Under Malone’s leadership, North Carolina has essentially rebuilt its team from the ground up after seeing much of last season’s roster depart. The frontcourt was particularly affected, as Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar moved on to the NBA, while depth contributors such as Zayden High and James Brown entered the transfer portal and found new destinations.

As a result, the Tar Heels have remained active in pursuing available big men through both the transfer portal and international recruiting channels. All indications suggest North Carolina is still intent on adding at least one more frontcourt player before putting the finishing touches on its roster for the 2026-27 campaign.
