BREAKING: Phillies Hit With Major Adolis Garcia News After Shoulder Injury

Philadelphia’s push toward the top of the National League took a significant hit on Friday after the club announced a major injury setback involving one of its veteran outfielders. As the Phillies continue to navigate a competitive season, the organization was forced to make several roster adjustments following the loss of Adolis García, while also welcoming reinforcements to help fill the void.

The Philadelphia Phillies officially placed outfielder Adolis García on the 60-day injured list after medical evaluations revealed a tear in his right latissimus dorsi muscle.

To address the roster changes, the Phillies recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, activated Derek Hill after his recent trade acquisition from the Chicago White Sox, and placed Steward Berroa on the paternity list.

García suffered the injury during Philadelphia’s 7-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the seventh inning when he tracked down a fly ball in right field and quickly fired a throw toward home plate in an effort to catch George Springer tagging up from third base. Immediately after releasing the throw, García appeared to be in discomfort and bent over while clutching the area around his right shoulder.

After being evaluated by the Phillies’ training staff, the veteran outfielder was removed from the game and replaced by Berroa.

The 33-year-old joined Philadelphia during the offseason on a one-year contract worth $10 million. However, he struggled to find consistency at the plate, batting just .195 with seven home runs and 21 RBIs across 67 appearances this season.

Over his major league career with the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and Phillies, García has compiled a .234 batting average while totaling 148 home runs and 480 RBIs in 833 games.

Hill, 30, arrives after hitting .213 with four home runs and eight RBIs in 50 games for the White Sox. Philadelphia acquired him on Thursday, along with $250,000 in international bonus pool money, in exchange for minor leaguers Dylan Campbell and Jose Colmenares.

Meanwhile, Rincones, ranked as the Phillies’ No. 6 prospect by MLB Pipeline, earned the call-up after batting .239 in 12 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Berroa, who is in his first season with Philadelphia, has gone 1-for-7 in six major league appearances this year.
