BREAKING: Phillies Linked To Veteran Slugger In Potentially Massive Second Base Addition

The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the hotter teams in baseball recently, battling their way back to the .500 mark. Although their streak of six consecutive series victories came to an end, the club continues to trend upward and appears headed in the right direction.

After a disastrous 9-19 start, the Phillies have turned things around in impressive fashion. A combination of moving on from manager Rob Thomson and a more favorable stretch of the schedule has helped spark the resurgence, putting Philadelphia firmly back into the National League race. Reaching .500 seemed like it might take much longer after the rough opening month, making the turnaround even more encouraging.

Despite the recent success, there are still areas where the roster could improve. The offense has performed much better during this stretch, with several role players making meaningful contributions. Since acquiring a middle-of-the-order power bat during the season can be difficult, the Phillies may instead look at other ways to strengthen the lineup.

According to Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report, Philadelphia could emerge as a potential suitor for Luis Arraez due to ongoing inconsistency at second base.

Arraez Would Help Improve Lineup

Giants' Luis Arraez working to put to rest concerns about his defense

One of baseball’s premier contact hitters, Arraez brings an old-school approach to the plate. While he isn’t known for power, he could provide significant value as a table-setter near the top of the batting order.

Through the current season with the San Francisco Giants, Arraez has posted a .319/.358/.422 slash line with two home runs, 17 RBIs, and only seven strikeouts. Even with limited home-run production, he owns an OPS close to .800 and remains a difficult out for opposing pitchers.

For Philadelphia, second baseman Bryson Stott has shown signs of improvement, but his overall production still leaves room for growth. He has slashed .229/.274/.405 with five home runs, 23 RBIs, and nine stolen bases this season. His performance over the last couple of weeks has been much stronger, however, making him a player worth monitoring closely moving forward.

While Arraez may not be a flawless fit for the Phillies, he would represent a clear offensive upgrade. If Stott’s recent surge continues, Philadelphia’s interest could remain limited, but the 28-year-old still has work to do before fully securing his place as the long-term answer at second base.
