BREAKING: Phillies Predicted to Sacrifice Two Top Prospects in Stunning Deadline Deal for All-Star Starting Pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be one of the most aggressive buyers ahead of the August 3 MLB trade deadline, and a new trade proposal has them addressing one of their biggest concerns by acquiring Baltimore Orioles left-hander Trevor Rogers.

With the Phillies continuing to chase the Atlanta Braves in the National League East, the front office is widely expected to explore upgrades for the back end of the starting rotation. While Zack Wheeler, Jesús Luzardo, and Cristopher Sánchez have anchored the rotation, inconsistent performances from Aaron Nola and Andrew Painter have increased the urgency for additional pitching depth.

A recent trade proposal highlighted by Heavy, citing a FanSided mock trade from MLB writer Christopher Kline, suggests Philadelphia could acquire former All-Star Trevor Rogers from the Orioles in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Moisés Chace and first baseman Keaton Anthony.

Kline believes the Phillies should take advantage of their championship window while their veteran core remains intact.

“The Phillies need to push their chips in. How much longer can the Phillies realistically plan on contending without major changes around the core of Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner, all of whom are on the wrong side of 30? The answer: not much longer.”

Although Rogers has struggled to replicate his best form in 2026, he remains an intriguing buy-low candidate. The former 2021 All-Star has posted a 4.99 ERA over 79.1 innings this season while recording 61 strikeouts. However, his 3.99 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) suggests his underlying performance has been better than his traditional statistics indicate, making him a potential rebound candidate in a new environment.

Rogers also enjoyed an impressive 2025 campaign, giving teams confidence that he could still return to the level that once made him one of the American League’s top pitchers.

For Philadelphia, adding Rogers would provide another experienced starter capable of competing for innings as the club prepares for a postseason run. The Phillies have remained among baseball’s hottest teams over the past two months, sitting just a few games behind the Braves in the NL East race, making the trade deadline a critical opportunity to strengthen an already talented roster.

The proposed deal would require Philadelphia to part with two promising prospects in Chace and Anthony, but the move could be worthwhile if Rogers regains his previous form and solidifies the back of the rotation during the stretch run.

Whether Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski ultimately targets Rogers remains to be seen. However, with the deadline approaching and Philadelphia firmly in World Series contention, the organization is expected to remain active in exploring both starting pitching and outfield upgrades before August 3.
