Chad Tracy Shares Thoughts on Franklin Arias

“It’s a challenge,” Tracy said. “I’ve always said, physically and tools-wise, you can watch Franklin and feel like this guy is going to play in the big leagues, but you never know. It’s the big leagues, and you don’t know how people are going to react.”
Tracy explained that some players struggle early after reaching the majors before eventually becoming stars, while others start fast but face difficulties later.
According to Tracy, evaluating a prospect requires looking beyond statistics. Physical ability, character, confidence, and the ability to overcome adversity are all important parts of the equation.
“Does he have the physical skills to do it? And do you like the character and the mental capacity and the ability to overcome things when they aren’t going right?” Tracy said. “Those are two big ones. From everything I know about the kid, he’s got those skills.”
Arias has continued making a strong case for a promotion, hitting .312 with 23 home runs and 72 RBIs in the minors this season.
Trevor Story Closing In on Return
While Arias continues to generate excitement, the Red Sox are also approaching the return of veteran shortstop Trevor Story.
Story is currently on a rehab assignment after recovering from his injury and indicated that a return this weekend could be possible.
“Yeah, it’s a possibility,” Story said.
However, Tracy explained that the team wants to evaluate Story’s progress during his rehab games before making a final decision.
The Red Sox plan to monitor how Story’s body responds, how his legs feel after playing extended innings, and whether his swing has returned to form before determining the next step.
Story’s return would give Boston more experience at shortstop, but his offensive struggles this season remain a concern. He is currently hitting .206 with three home runs and 19 RBIs.
