BREAKING: Unai Emery reveals true feelings about quitting Aston Villa for Man Utd

Unai Emery’s true feelings about leaving Aston Villa for Manchester United have been revealed by insiders, contradicting previous reports.

The uncertainty surrounding United’s next managerial appointment continues to grow, with Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte among the names linked with the position as Michael Carrick waits to discover his future.

According to reports, Howe has become Jason Wilcox’s preferred candidate. The former Newcastle United boss would offer the Premier League experience that United’s director of football is looking for in his next managerial appointment.

However, United could be required to pay Newcastle at least £3 million in compensation, as Howe remains contractually tied to the club despite his departure over the summer.

Nagelsmann and Conte are also reportedly in contention. The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager has been linked with the vacancy following his departure from Napoli, while Nagelsmann is said to be interested in taking charge at Old Trafford.

Kieran McKenna has also emerged as a potential candidate, according to The Guardian, while Ben Jacobs has identified Simone Inzaghi and Cesc Fàbregas as two other managers admired by United during their succession planning.

Carrick arrived at Carrington on Tuesday morning with his future still uncertain following Sunday’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. The result came as United sat 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone.

With only two victories in their last 12 competitive matches, Carrick is facing mounting pressure to save his job, with Chelsea awaiting United on Saturday afternoon.

The situation leaves the club facing a significant decision, although another managerial change would offer no guarantee of an immediate improvement in results.

Now, Emery has emerged as a more prominent name in the conversation, with Pete Hall reporting that the Aston Villa manager could be attracted to the prospect of taking charge of Manchester United.

Writing for The i Paper, Hall claims that some insiders believe the Spaniard would be willing to consider the United job if the opportunity presented itself, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

The report also states that several United executives consider Emery their preferred candidate, offering fresh encouragement to the club as they assess their options.

His impressive work at Villa has strengthened his reputation and made him an appealing choice for a club searching for greater consistency and a return to success.

However, there is a contrasting assessment of Emery’s situation at Villa Park.

Aston Villa: Unai Emery delivers again as he wins fifth Europa League title - BBC Sport

Guillem Balague has told talkSPORT that the Spaniard feels appreciated at Aston Villa and is enthusiastic about the club’s future.

United have already experienced Emery’s ability to deliver on the biggest European stage, having lost to his Villarreal side in the 2021 Europa League final. Villarreal prevailed on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Emery subsequently enjoying further European success during his time at Villa.

Aston Villa also have a significant advantage in their efforts to retain the manager, with Emery having signed a contract that runs until 2029. That agreement provides the club with protection should another team attempt to prise him away.

Hall describes Emery as the most expensive candidate under consideration and reports that there are concerns within United about committing further funds after the substantial costs associated with previous managerial changes.

Nevertheless, Emery’s latest achievement has once again demonstrated why he could attract interest from rival clubs.

Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday, ending City’s perfect start to their league campaign. The victory provided another example of Emery’s ability to prepare his team for demanding encounters, even when facing opponents with greater financial resources.

For United, that experience would be particularly appealing at a time when poor results and declining confidence have increased the pressure on the club.

However, Hall’s report does not claim that Emery wants to leave Aston Villa or that Manchester United have made an approach for the Spaniard.

For now, the uncertainty surrounding United’s managerial search continues, with Emery’s potential availability likely to remain a talking point as the club considers its next move.
