Caden Glauber earns Perfect Game Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors
Glauber was named a Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game, sharing the honor with Texas right-hander Sam Cozart. Both pitchers were exceptional all season, playing major roles in their teams’ deep postseason runs toward Omaha.
Whenever Glauber pitched, North Carolina was unbeatable. The Tar Heels went a perfect 25–0 in his 25 appearances, a jaw-dropping statistic that speaks volumes about his impact.
Nationally, his numbers stacked up with the best in the country. Glauber finished with a 2.20 ERA, the seventh-best mark in college baseball, ranked 10th in hits allowed per nine innings at 5.73, and tied for eighth in wins with 10. In the process, he became the first Tar Heel pitcher ever to earn a national freshman-of-the-year honor, putting him in a class of his own.
UNC fans can feel confident about the program’s future
It has been more than a decade since North Carolina last produced a Perfect Game freshman award winner, with the previous honor coming back in 2011.
When Glauber chose to reclassify and arrive early, the goal wasn’t simply long-term development. The coaching staff believed he could make an immediate impact, and that confidence has been fully justified. North Carolina’s pitching staff is unquestionably stronger because of him.
