Maybe Skubal is just that guy, but if nanoscope technology halves the return time from bone-chip injuries, what an advancement,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan posted.
With his rehab showing strong results, multiple contenders are expected to monitor his situation closely. According to ESPN insider Buster Olney, one potential landing spot if the Tigers fall out of contention could be the Philadelphia Phillies.
“If they fall out [of the American League race] then you would imagine teams like the Dodgers, the Padres, the Phillies, will be having conversations with the Tigers,” Olney said.
Philadelphia already features one of the strongest rotations in baseball, led by Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez, and Zack Wheeler. Adding a pitcher of this caliber would elevate the group into arguably the best rotation in the league.
He is currently under a $32 million contract, making him an unusually affordable option for a player of his talent level. With the Phillies firmly in win-now mode, a move of this magnitude would significantly boost their championship hopes and strengthen an already elite pitching staff.
