GOOD NEWS: North Carolina Receives Massive Henri Veesaar News That Changes Everything

If North Carolina fans have looked away for even a moment this offseason, they may have missed another major roster development. The Tar Heels have been one of the busiest programs in the transfer portal, with head coach Michael Malone moving aggressively to reshape the team for next season. Recent additions of Terrence Brown and Matt Able already had fans buzzing, but the surprise commitment of center Maxim Logue added another layer of intrigue to an already eventful offseason.

While Logue’s arrival gives North Carolina added size and depth in the frontcourt, it also raises an important question about the future of Henri Veesaar. Many supporters are hoping Logue is simply being brought in as a valuable reserve piece rather than a replacement. However, growing speculation suggests Veesaar may soon test the NBA Draft process, creating uncertainty around the Tar Heels’ plans at the center position.

That speculation gained more traction when reporter Andrew Jones discussed the situation during a podcast appearance with John Henson. According to Jones, Veesaar is expected to explore his draft options while still keeping the possibility of returning to Chapel Hill on the table.

“Our understanding right now, and we’ll have to find out some more information later today, was that he was going to enter the draft, but also hold the possibility of returning,” Jones told Henson. “He has until May 27 to withdraw from the draft, so that gives him five weeks. That’s plenty of time to find out what he’s all about and if he’s going to be a first-round pick or not. In the meantime Carolina’s got to take care of themselves. They ought to go after someone and pay someone to be a starter at the five and if Henri does come back, well there’s nothing wrong with that – you’ve got an abundance of dudes there, but an abundance of dudes is a good thing and you can find ways to make it work.”

UNC big man Henri Veesaar is expected to test the NBA Draft waters

From one perspective, this could be encouraging news for North Carolina. If Veesaar enters the draft without fully committing to stay in, the possibility remains open for him to return after receiving feedback from NBA teams. That route has become increasingly common for college stars looking to gauge their professional value while preserving college eligibility.

Still, the Tar Heels face a difficult balancing act. Waiting for Veesaar’s final decision until late May could limit other opportunities in the portal or international market. If Malone wants to secure a proven starting center, he may need to move before Veesaar reaches his final verdict.

Elsewhere on the roster, North Carolina’s projected lineup is beginning to come into focus. Brown, Able, Neoklis Avdalas, and Jarin Stevenson appear to be strong candidates for starting roles. That leaves center as the biggest unanswered question heading into the summer. Jones also mentioned that UNC is evaluating overseas prospects who could help fill the position if Veesaar decides to stay in the draft.

Even with those options available, many Tar Heel fans would prefer the simplest outcome: Veesaar returning to Chapel Hill. The All-ACC standout made a huge impact in his first season with North Carolina and would likely be one of the team’s most important players next year. His presence would instantly strengthen the roster on both ends of the floor.

For now, all eyes remain on Veesaar. Draft-related news could arrive soon, and once it does, the countdown to a final decision will begin. Whether he returns or turns pro, the next few weeks could shape North Carolina’s entire season outlook.
