The Philadelphia Phillies did not open the season the way they envisioned, stumbling out to an 8–16 record and quickly falling into an early hole after enduring a losing streak that stretched close to two weeks.
That rough start sparked growing frustration within the fanbase and eventually led to a major organizational decision to part ways with former manager Rob Thomson.

“There’s a major shakeup in Philadelphia. The Phillies fired manager Rob Thomson on Tuesday morning. Don Mattingly is the interim skipper, with the team’s press release saying he’ll hold that position for the remainder of the 2026 season,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Anthony Franco reported.
Since the managerial switch, Philadelphia’s performance has noticeably improved, with the team beginning to stack up wins and regain momentum. Still, inconsistency at the plate has lingered, and the need for additional help in the outfield has become even more urgent following the injury to Adolis García.
“The Phillies announced that they have placed outfielder Adolis García on the 60-day injured list with a torn right lat. They recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill his roster spot,” Franco added.
With a championship window clearly open, Philadelphia is widely expected to be aggressive ahead of the trade deadline. Bleacher Report’s Timothy Rapp has pointed to Jo Adell as a potential fit.
“The Philadelphia Phillies have had a major need for a right-handed bat to protect players like Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper in the middle of the lineup this season, which only became more urgent after right fielder Adolis García was placed on the 60-day injured list with a torn lat. Adell, 27, is hitting .249 this season with 10 home runs, 39 RBIs, 33 runs and a .684 OPS. While it’s a down year compared to his career-best 37-homer season, he would still represent an upgrade,” Rapp wrote.
Adell could help address the void in right field left by García’s absence, especially given his strong defensive upside, highlighted by several standout plays this season, including multiple home run robberies in a single game.
With García likely out for the rest of the year, Philadelphia’s need for a dependable replacement is growing more pressing. On a relatively team-friendly contract with a club option for next season, Adell could also offer long-term value, making him an appealing target to bolster both the Phillies’ offense and defense in right field.
