St. Louis Cardinals pitcher has made his next move after recently being designated for assignment, bringing his latest chapter with the organization to a close.
The right-hander elected free agency rather than accepting an assignment to Triple-A Memphis, giving him the opportunity to explore a new situation elsewhere. The decision comes shortly after the Cardinals reinstated him from the 15-day injured list and designated him for assignment.
The 31-year-old right-hander has experience across multiple Major League organizations.
Peter Strzelecki appeared in eight games for St. Louis and finished his time with the club with a 1-1 record and a 5.79 ERA. While his numbers during his brief Cardinals stint were not what he would have wanted, his overall Major League résumé offers a much larger sample of his career.
Before joining St. Louis, Strzelecki spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians. He has now spent parts of four seasons at the Major League level, gaining experience in several different organizations and pitching environments.
Across 85 career MLB appearances, Strzelecki owns a 6-7 record with a 3.78 ERA. Those career numbers highlight the experience he brings to the free-agent market and could give him an opportunity to find another organization willing to give him a fresh start.
His decision to elect free agency allows Strzelecki to control the next step of his career rather than continuing with the Cardinals’ organization at the minor-league level. For a veteran pitcher with previous Major League success, the move could open the door to another opportunity.
