As the new high school basketball season approaches, many elite prospects in the 2027 recruiting class are beginning to identify their top choices and prepare for the next stage of their recruitments. In the months ahead, several of the nation’s top players are expected to reveal finalist lists and set up official visits with their leading programs.
One rising star attracting plenty of attention is five-star center who has recently become a notable recruiting target for Kentucky and head coach Mark Pope.
Standing at 6-foot-10 and weighing 220 pounds, Osaruyi is set to spend his senior season at Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona. The highly regarded big man is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 12 overall player in the 2027 class, the No. 2 center in the country, and the No. 3 prospect in Arizona.
Osaruyi’s impressive talent has made him one of the most sought-after players in his class, with 25 scholarship offers already on the table. His list of suitors includes Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, BYU, Cincinnati, and several other high-profile college basketball programs.
Because of his status as one of the premier frontcourt prospects in the country, Kentucky will face a difficult battle to secure his commitment. Pope and his staff will have to compete with several established contenders that have been pursuing Osaruyi for a longer period of time. The Wildcats have already made a strong start to their 2027 recruiting efforts by securing a commitment from five-star small forward Ryan Hampton.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Kentucky has quickly become one of the programs gaining momentum in Osaruyi’s recruitment.
“Kentucky is the other school that I have heard recently with the big man. They are a ‘newer’ program in the mix, but seem to have made a relatively quick connection,” Shaw reported.
The Wildcats’ ability to build a strong relationship with Osaruyi in a short amount of time could prove important as his recruitment continues to develop. The next major step will be whether Kentucky can close the gap on programs that entered the race earlier and convince the elite center to make an official visit to Lexington.
Pope has made it clear that Kentucky intends to compete for the nation’s best talent, and adding a player like Osaruyi would give the Wildcats another cornerstone piece in what could become a loaded 2027 recruiting class. With Ryan Hampton already committed, Kentucky is continuing its pursuit of more elite prospects in hopes of building one of the top classes in the country.
