Everton could be facing a major transfer headache next summer, with one of their most important players reportedly facing a difficult decision if Bayern Munich make a formal approach.
The 32-year-old has been a mainstay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium since joining from Sunderland in 2017, missing just 11 Premier League games during that time.
Despite being settled under David Moyes and remaining a crucial part of Everton’s plans, the prospect of joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs could prove extremely difficult to ignore.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Jordan Pickford would be interested in the possibility of moving to Bayern Munich and competing for major trophies.
While Pickford is not expected to force his way out of Everton in the near future, Bayern’s interest could change the situation if the Bundesliga giants decide to make their move.
Everton are in a strong negotiating position, with the England goalkeeper’s current contract running until 2029. That means the club would have significant control over his future should Bayern submit an offer next summer.
Could Jordan Pickford Leave Everton?
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has also suggested that Pickford’s position with England could come under pressure following the emergence of Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford.
Pickford has been England’s first-choice goalkeeper for almost a decade, but competition for the position could provide another reason for him to consider what he wants from the next stage of his club career.
A move to Bayern Munich could offer the prospect of regular Champions League football and the chance to compete for major domestic and European honours — something that could be difficult for any player to turn down.
Brown told Football Insider:
“It’s not a surprise a club like Bayern Munich are looking at Jordan Pickford. He’s a very good goalkeeper and he’s done an outstanding job both for Everton and for England for a number of years now, so he’s going to have a long list of admirers.”
He added:
“Everton obviously won’t want to lose him, but I must admit, it could be very difficult for Pickford to turn down a move to Bayern Munich.”
Brown believes the opportunity could become particularly tempting at this stage of Pickford’s career.
“At this stage of his career, the opportunity to go over to Germany where he is guaranteed to win trophies and silverware will be something he is interested in.”
He continued:
“I expect he will be tempted if they come forward with an offer, obviously it would have to be agreed with Everton first, but from the player’s point of view I can understand it.”
For now, there is no indication that Pickford has formally asked to leave Everton. However, if Bayern Munich turn their reported interest into a concrete offer, Everton could find themselves facing one of their biggest transfer decisions in years.
