Sunderland player close to one-match suspension – with three others close to disciplinary threshold

Sunderland are ready for their Championship match against Norwich City at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland defender Dan Ballard is still one yellow card away from a one-match ban, while three other Black Cats players are approaching the disciplinary threshold.

Ballard received his fourth yellow card of the season in this month’s 4-0 loss to Middlesbrough, but did not receive another in subsequent games against Stoke and Leicester.

Still, EFL rules indicate that a player would incur a one-game suspension if they receive five yellow cards before the 19th game of the season, which in Sunderland’s case will be on Saturday, December 2. The Black Cats will play Norwich, Swansea, Birmingham, Plymouth, and Huddersfield before that match. Players who receive 10 yellow cards before the 37th league game of the season will be suspended for two games.

Sunderland’s Luke O’Nien and Dennis Cirkin were both booked during Tuesday’s game against Leicester, giving them three yellow cards this season, along with Abdoullah Ba.
