Olivier Giroud, 37, is still scoring goals for AC Milan and France, but he has stated that there are presently no negotiations about renewing his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Giroud has eight goals and three assists in the first 15 games of the season in Serie A and the Champions League, making this his best’start’ to a season since joining the Rossoneri from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.
Given that he is now closer to 40 than 30, it is understandable that the Milan management is aiming to relieve the pressure on his shoulders by signing a fresh centre-forward for next season.
Despite this, there have been widespread reports that Milan do not want to be without Giroud and intend to offer him a contract extension, given that his current contract expires at the end of the current season and there are rumors of interest from Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League.
Giroud discussed his contract issue with Le Journal du Dimanche after scoring a brace in France’s 14-0 triumph against Gibraltar, and his comments were relayed by PianetaMilan.
“My contract expires in June, but I would like to stay and continue at Milan. The negotiations for the renewal are not yet underway, but I think I will talk to the club soon,” he said.
