Bruno Guimaraes facing second Newcastle United ban just weeks after Arsenal game

Bruno Guimaraes, a Newcastle United midfielder, is balancing disciplinary issues in the Champions League.
Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United has just recently returned from a one-match suspension, but he is on the verge of another.

The Newcastle midfielder received his fifth Premier League yellow card of the season in the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Arsenal, forcing him to miss the following week’s trip to AFC Bournemouth.
And United suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Vitality Stadium without Guimaraes. It’s possible that his return to play Chelsea on Saturday resulted in a 4-1 victory.

Speaking about the 26-year-old’s importance, Magpies boss Eddie Howe said: “He’s an outstanding player. You’re always going to miss a player of his technical ability and enthusiasm, and I think he’s a real catalyst for us with the supporters as well.

“You take that player away and I think there is a big hole. Him coming back into the squad is a massive lift, we’ve certainly missed him.”

The Brazilian will start tonight’s Champions League match against PSG, but he knows he must escape a caution if he is to play in the final Group F match against AC Milan at St James’ Park on December 13.
Players who are booked three times before the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals face a one-match suspension. Guimaraes was previously cautioned against PSG and Borussia Dortmund.

What happens tonight at the Parc des Princes (kick-off 8 p.m.) will determine the relevance of the AC Milan game. Eddie Howe’s team must avoid defeat in order to remain in contention for the knockout stages.

A win would put Newcastle’s fate in their own hands, whereas a draw would require them to rely on the results of other teams. If they lose, their last 16 hopes are over.
