Breaking: 19-year-old star makes decision to join Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic defender Thierry Small has stated that he ‘wouldn’t’ turn down the opportunity to continue at The Valley beyond this summer.
Charlton Athletic swooped to sign the left-back earlier this winter after he departed Southampton.

Small, 19, has subsequently made a strong impression, helping his new club climb the League One table.

When asked about his future plans, he stated, according to London News Online, “I’m here for everything. If it is what the club wants to accomplish, I would not turn it down.

“My current goal is to play as many games as possible for Charlton and to help the team end the season strongly. We’re having a good little run. Hopefully, we can retain this form going into the new season.”

Charlton signed Small on a short-term contract, but he has the option to extend his stay for another 12 months this summer.
The former England youth international has played seven league games for the London club and scored once.

Keeping him is an easy decision for the Addicks. He is young, has the ability to grow and improve in the future, and has known Nathan Jones since their time at Southampton together.

Small was on the books at West Brom and Everton before joining the Saints.

The Solihull native went on to make one first-team appearance for St Mary’s before being loaned to Port Vale and St Mirren to gain experience.

He spent the first half of the season with the latter in the Scottish Premiership, playing six games before returning to his parent club in January.

Southampton then ended their relationship forever by mutual consent, and he has since moved to Charlton.

Small’s move to the Addicks has worked out well for all sides, and Jones’ side will return to action on Friday with an away trip to Exeter City, hoping to maintain their momentum.
