Oregon football lands commitment for another top star

Oregon has received a verbal commitment from Alabama transfer safety and former 2024 4-star prospect Peyton Woodyard. The 6-foot-2 safety came to campus this weekend for an official visit with his family.

Woodyard is Oregon’s second transfer portal addition this spring and the second this weekend, following a commitment from Michigan State defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.

Woodyard joins Oregon’s defensive backfield as another talented and versatile athlete. Here’s what Greg Biggins of 247Sports recently said about a player evaluation.

“Woodyard is a savvy, heady safety with an exceptional football IQ. He was a three-year starter for state powerhouse St. John Bosco and had an excellent senior season. He has a prototype safety structure with plenty of room to expand and add weight. He played a more rugged game as a senior, appearing more eager to move off the hash and unleash a punch. He tackles well in the open field, has outstanding secondary range, and does an excellent job covering tight ends and running backs.

He’s not a freak athlete and will need to work on his overall quickness and athleticism, but his intelligence and ability to play in all situations should get him on the field early in college.”

Woodyard, who graduated from high school as part of the 2024 recruiting class, was listed as the No. 20 safety in the country and the 21st-rated prospect in California. He received a high school recruitment grade of 91. Woodyard is ranked as a 3-star prospect and the No. 297 overall prospect in the USA on the Transfer Portal.
