After navigating early-season injury concerns along the defensive front, Auburn head coach Alex Golesh revealed Monday that both Da’Shawn Womack and Chris Murray are expected to be available for Saturday night’s highly anticipated matchup against Florida. The news comes as a major relief for a Tigers defense that is preparing for the physical demands and speed of conference play.
Neither Womack nor Murray suited up during Auburn’s dominant 43-8 victory over Southern Miss, but Golesh emphasized that their absence was more about caution than a serious setback. The coaching staff chose to protect two important pieces of the defensive line rather than risk further injury before the start of SEC competition.
Womack, a transfer from Ole Miss, entered the 2026 season with high expectations and was viewed as one of Auburn’s most dangerous pass-rushing threats. His ability to pressure quarterbacks, disrupt plays in the backfield, and create negative yardage situations made him a key part of the Tigers’ defensive plans. However, his Week 1 matchup against Baylor ended early after he suffered an injury late in the first half of Auburn’s dramatic 17-16 victory.
