The New York Mets opened their series against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night, and this time they came away with a victory.
New York defeated Texas 6-3 at Globe Life Field, improving to 72-85 on the season. Sean Manaea delivered a strong start, striking out nine over six innings, while Francisco Alvarez provided a key offensive spark with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
The victory came after the Mets split a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. New York dropped the series finale 7-2 on Sunday before having Monday off.
With the 2026 regular season nearing its conclusion, former Mets All-Star Taijuan Walker remains a free agent.
Walker began the 2026 season with the Phillies but was released on April 23 after a difficult stretch. He finished his time in Philadelphia with a 1-4 record and a 9.13 ERA over five appearances, including four starts.
The right-hander later signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels in May. However, he never reached the Angels’ major league roster. Walker spent time with the ACL Angels and Triple-A Salt Lake before being released by the Salt Lake Bees on June 20.
His Mets Career
Walker spent two seasons with New York from 2021-22 and earned his first career All-Star selection in 2021 as a replacement for Jacob deGrom.
In 59 appearances with the Mets, including 58 starts, Walker went 19-16 with a 3.98 ERA and 278 strikeouts across 316 1/3 innings.
The 34-year-old has also pitched for the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays and Phillies during his MLB career.
For now, Walker remains unsigned as the 2026 season approaches its final week. His next opportunity to return to the majors could come during the 2026-27 offseason, with teams evaluating pitching depth ahead of the 2027 campaign.
Meanwhile, the Mets will continue their series against the Rangers after Tuesday’s 6-3 victory.
