Everton’s poor deadline day, combined with an underwhelming window overall, has left the squad looking weaker and Moyes facing the difficult task of making the best of the situation.
The Friedkin Group and chief executive Angus Kinnear have attracted much of the criticism, although Moyes is aware that pressure could eventually shift towards him if results fail to improve.
Ahead of Everton’s Premier League meeting with Manchester United on Sunday, Moyes provided an update on his relationship with the club’s ownership and addressed speculation surrounding his own future.
Moyes has no plans to leave Everton
Much of Moyes’ Friday press conference focused on the events of deadline day and Everton’s transfer business.
The manager made it clear that he remains committed to the club and has no intention of walking away despite the difficulties surrounding the squad.
Moyes also revealed that he has yet to meet owner Dan Friedkin personally, with Kinnear currently serving as his primary point of contact with the ownership group.
The revelation is notable given the importance of the relationship between the manager and the club’s hierarchy, particularly after a transfer window that has left Everton facing questions over their squad strength.
Moyes and Everton face an uncertain future
There appears to be little indication that Moyes intends to resign, while a dismissal would also seem unlikely unless Everton suffer a significant decline in results.
However, the 63-year-old remains out of contract at the end of the season, and there has been no clear indication that a new agreement is currently being negotiated.
As things stand, Moyes could therefore become a free agent next summer.
Unless circumstances change dramatically, Everton may ultimately decide to take a different direction at the end of the campaign, potentially bringing Moyes’ second spell at the club to a close.
