As the new school year gets underway, many of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class are beginning to trim their lists of preferred programs. Over the next several months, a number of those recruits are expected to reveal their finalists while also lining up official visits.
Among the most sought-after players is 5 star center Paul Osaruyi, with Kentucky emerging as one of the schools making a strong impression early in the process.
Osaruyi, a 6 foot 10, 220 pound center, will spend his senior season at Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 247Sports Composite rankings place him as the No. 12 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 2 center in the class, and the No. 3 player in Arizona.
The highly regarded big man has already collected 25 scholarship offers from powerhouse programs, including Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, BYU, Cincinnati, and several others across the country.
With virtually every major program pursuing Osaruyi, Mark Pope and the Wildcats face stiff competition if they hope to add another elite talent to their 2027 recruiting class. Kentucky has already secured a commitment from 5 star small forward Ryan Hampton, giving the Wildcats an early cornerstone for the class.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Kentucky has rapidly become a serious contender in Osaruyi’s recruitment.
“Kentucky is the other school that I have heard recently with the big man. They are a ‘newer’ program in the mix, but seem to have made a relatively quick connection.”
The next step will be seeing whether the Wildcats can continue building momentum, close the gap on programs that have been recruiting Osaruyi longer, and ultimately convince him to schedule an official visit.
Pope and his staff remain focused on assembling one of the nation’s premier recruiting classes, continuing to target multiple elite prospects in hopes of building another loaded 2027 group.
