BREAKING NEWS: A Standout Shooting Guard Is Landing in Lexington

Excitement is building once again in Big Blue Nation as Kentucky prepares to welcome another talented backcourt prospect to campus. The Wildcats have already made noise in the transfer portal this offseason, but now another intriguing name is set to arrive in Lexington for an official visit. Even better for Kentucky fans, this is a player with deep hometown roots and a lifelong connection to the program.

Washington State shooting guard is scheduled to take an official visit to Kentucky on Friday, April 24, according to KSR’s Jacob Polacheck. For fans hoping Mark Pope continues adding skill, shooting, and depth to the roster, this is a development worth watching closely.

His interest in Kentucky appears to be much more than casual. According to his father, the Wildcats represent a dream opportunity.

“We just love Kentucky, man. He was born and raised here,” his father told KSR. “That’s been his lifetime dream to play at Kentucky.”

That quote alone is enough to energize the fan base. Landing a player who grew up dreaming of wearing blue often brings a different level of passion and commitment, and Morton’s connection to the program could make this recruitment especially meaningful.

Originally from Lexington, Jerone Morton made his name locally while starring at George Rogers Clark High School. He helped lead the program to a Kentucky state championship in 2022, cementing himself as one of the state’s top talents. Though he was rated as a 3-star prospect during his high school recruitment, Morton continued to develop and has since elevated his stock significantly.

Jerone Morton, Washington State, Point Guard

He began his college career at Morehead State, where he spent two seasons sharpening his game before transferring to Washington State last offseason. That move helped showcase his growth on a bigger stage.

During his junior season with the Cougars, Morton averaged 7.6 points and just under 3 assists per game while playing around 25 minutes per contest. His biggest weapon, however, may be his perimeter shooting. Morton connected on an impressive 39 percent of his shots from beyond the arc, proving he can stretch defenses and provide valuable spacing.

Kentucky has already added talented guards Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins in recent days, showing that Pope is serious about building a dangerous and versatile backcourt. If Morton were to join the Wildcats, he could initially provide strong depth off the bench while bringing experience, toughness, and reliable shooting.

For Kentucky fans, the storyline is easy to love: a Lexington native with dreams of playing for the Wildcats now has a real chance to come home.
