Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Andre now appears to have reached a dead end.
Corinthians rejected a reported £10 million offer from the Reds for the 20-year-old during the summer, although discussions between the two clubs were believed to have continued over a possible transfer. A January move had been mooted, with Andre expected to consider his future once the Brazilian domestic season came to an end.
However, the prospect of the midfielder joining Oliver Glasner’s side in the new year now appears to have disappeared. Brazilian outlet Itatiaia reports that this particular option is “no longer valid”.
The same is reportedly true of a move to Forest’s sister club Olympiacos. The Greek side had also expressed an interest in Andre, but their proposal, like Forest’s, “did not please” Corinthians.
Andre is therefore said to be looking for “new opportunities” as he considers a move elsewhere in 2027, either during the winter transfer window or next summer. A switch to the Premier League is still understood to appeal to the midfielder.
After Forest’s initial £10m bid was turned down, Corinthians claimed they received no further response after submitting a counterproposal. Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz said: “On Saturday, August 22nd, we received an offer via Diogo (Andre’s agent, Diogo Silva) from Nottingham Forest for 12 million euros directly, with no bonuses, nothing. We received this offer at exactly 8.28pm (Brazil time). At 9.54pm, Corinthians presented their counter offer. After that, nothing else came.”
Paz later indicated that a deal with Forest could still be possible. Reports subsequently suggested negotiations remained ongoing, with the Reds attempting to bring down Corinthians’ £15m asking price.
Paz said at the time: “The idea is that he (Andre) can be negotiated, but only delivered at the end of the year. The English transfer window is closed. However, negotiations were conducted independently of the window, meaning with the possibility of Andre leaving in January.
“So, this negotiation can still happen and would be a relief for the club’s finances, an important resource. If the sale goes through, there’s a sporting loss, but there’s a significant financial gain for the club.”
Andre had also attracted interest from AC Milan earlier this year. The Italian giants came close to securing his services, only for the proposed transfer to ultimately collapse.
Forest strengthened their midfield by signing Xaver Schlager after Elliot Anderson’s departure for Manchester City. Bringing in another midfielder remained on their agenda deep into the transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall and Everton’s Harrison Armstrong among the players reportedly considered.
