JUST IN: Don Mattingly Drops Bombshell Update on JT Realmuto After Scary Dodgers Incident

The Philadelphia Phillies head into a new week of Major League Baseball following a West Coast trip that produced mixed results. Philadelphia swept the San Diego Padres but dropped two of three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, finishing the series with a 9–1 loss on Sunday. That finale also included a tense moment involving catcher JT Realmuto.

In the third inning, Realmuto was hit on the left wrist by a pitch. Although he initially stayed in the game, discomfort quickly became an issue, and he was replaced an inning later by Rafael Marchan.

After the series concluded, manager Don Mattingly addressed Realmuto’s condition and offered an encouraging update. He explained that Realmuto was dealing with significant soreness, struggled to grip the bat, wasn’t able to swing comfortably, and even had some trouble catching. Despite those concerns, x-rays on the wrist came back negative, easing fears of a serious injury.

The timing may work in the Phillies’ favor, as the team has an off day Monday, giving Realmuto extra time to rest. Philadelphia returns home Tuesday to open a three-game series against the Padres. Given how wrist injuries can linger, it wouldn’t be surprising if Realmuto sits out a game or two to fully recover or better assess how he feels.

JT Realmuto Still Defines Future of the Phillies as 2026 Approaches

The injury scare comes during a difficult 2026 season for Realmuto. After signing a three-year, $45 million contract to remain in Philadelphia, he has struggled offensively compared to his career standards. Through 39 games, he is batting .220 with two home runs, nine RBIs, and an OPS+ of 65. After spending a decade consistently producing above league-average numbers prior to 2025, Realmuto now appears on pace for another down season. Having already spent time on the injured list once this year, the Phillies are hopeful this latest setback does not lead to another stint.
