Newcastle United man suffers injury and won’t play in Champions League today

Newcastle United’s winger is now on loan at Feyenoord, the Dutch champions.
Yankuba Minteh of Newcastle United will be out for a while after suffering an injury.

The 19-year-old joined Tyneside from Danish side Odense Boldklub in June for £7 million before being loaned to Feyenoord for the 2023-24 season.
Minteh has made an impression in the Eredivisie, scoring three goals in nine appearances and appearing in both Champions League matches against Celtic and Atletico Madrid.

However, his progress will be hampered by the Dutch champions’ confirmation that Minteh will be absent for “several weeks.”

“Yankuba Minteh will be unable to play for several weeks,” the team said in a statement. The 19-year-old attacker suffered a muscle injury in the league match against Vitesse last Saturday.

“Minteh had to be substituted fifteen minutes before time due to the injury. The Gambian international, who is on loan from Newcastle United this season, has so far played twelve official matches for Feyenoord in which he scored three times.”

Minteh was set to play in the Champions League tonight when Feyenoord hosted Serie A side Lazio, with Newcastle hosting Borussia Dortmund.

Minteh is being closely monitored by the Magpies.
Last month, Eddie Howe stated of the player, “He’s started really well, I’m really, really pleased.” When a player is loaned out, the assumption is that they will learn and grow their game, and he is certainly doing so.

“He’s scoring goals playing in a good team in a good league so really pleased.”

Meanwhile, Minteh recently stated that he is doubtful whether he would be a part of Howe’s first team plans for next summer.

“I was able to sign a contract with Newcastle, but I have never seen the city myself,” Minteh stated. “The club immediately indicated that I would be loaned to Feyenoord.”

“I also signed my contract with Newcastle in Rotterdam.” The club sent a variety of personnel to the Netherlands to guarantee that my first few weeks were a success.

“The rental agreement is valid until the end of the season.” I’ve heard that some people are hoping I’ll remain longer. But that’s a long way off.

“It’s obvious that I enjoy it here. I sense the trainers’ and fans’ gratitude. And I feel like I’m growing as a person thanks to this trainer.”
